Synchronicity is a very powerful word. Loosely, it means events that happen together may be occurring for reasons beyond mere coincidence, and that there may be a meaning or connection behind them.

I like to imagine that there are magical things happening in the world. It seems unlikely, at least to the scientific mind. But what if things are more connected than we think they are, even if we don’t have a scientific explanation?

When a person focuses on an intention and visualizes a goal, it can set a process in motion making it more likely that person will attain that goal. It’s like when an athlete visualizes the outcome of an event and mentally practices making it happen.

My Personal Synchronicity

The journey I am currently on seems like a synchronicity. I have always wanted to be a freelance writer, or to at least try to do more freelancing while I was employed full-time. I found that I often lacked energy to do more than the work I was already engaged in. I was able to do some assignments for local lifestyle magazines, but only one or two per month.

But the thought of doing more of this type of work lingered, and I imagined how I would accomplish this task. I put energy into imagining what it would be like, and how I could succeed. Now, a new freelance job seems to have fallen in my lap. I have started my freelance journey, beginning with my work writing news articles for the food website Chowhound. I even have a fun personal profile displayed on the about page.

Looking for Freelance Work

For Hire Sign on Light

In addition to this work, I want to expand my reach and work for other clients as well I am discovering that to expand my footprint, I need to market myself. I was told by a friend who knows people who are full-time freelance workers that they often market themselves up to 15 hours per week. Setting an intention to learn about freelancing has brought numerous people into my life that happen to have ideas for me based on their life experiences.

Little did I know that it takes that many hours of work per week just to put yourself out there and get noticed. To get clients, they must know you exist and see your work. I am currently figuring out what this looks like. Most online marketing takes place on social media, through networking, and through writing and promoting the work on numerous platforms.

This is the task I face now if I wish to continue building a freelance career. Up to this point I considered freelancing as a step towards, or something to compliment, full employment. But now, I find that pursuing may become my full-time profession. Either way, it’ll be be a fun challenge.

Good luck to all the job seekers out there!
